Telling a Story

I am sitting here watching the fifth episode of the documentary show, "The Chair." If you haven't heard of this amazing show yet, you should definitely tune in. It airs Saturdays at 11PM on Starz.
"The Chair" is about a competition between two different directors each making their directing debut from the same script. However, they are allowed to add changes to the script to express what they are wanting their film to bring to the audience. Each director and their team film for 4 weeks in Pittsburgh, PA. While filming their version of the script, they are simultaneously being documented on camera about their experience. This show is an AMAZING look into how films, especially independent films, are made. You get a backstage pass to see what all goes into a movie and how everyone needs to work together. There is a lot that goes into making a movie and there are many people working, not just in front of the camera, but behind it as well. This series shows all the parts you don't see and all the work that needs to be done to create a movie. Each director has a different way of telling their story and it is truly intriguing.
For myself, I have enjoyed being an extra in one of the films called Holidaysburg directed by Anna Martemucci. I've been an extra in several films as well as a stand-in. I've been lucky to see a lot of what goes on, on set. However, this show has informed me of much more that is put into a film from day one. I love being able to share this series with my family and husband so that they get an idea of what I do on set.
If you have every wondered about what goes on behind the scenes of making a movie, this is definitely a show you should tune into. I am truly fascinated with every episode and again, love showing people close to me what a "day at work" looks like for an extra, etc.
I love seeing the drive in everyone that is apart of making films. They are telling a story that people will be able to enjoy, that people will be able to be entertained by and relate to. Movies tell us stories that are shared across the world. Whether they are made for pure entertainment or made to share a true story in history and I think that is a beautiful thing.
